Philadelphia Eagles

My wife Jenny, my brothers Chris and Ryan and I got up early in the morning for the NFC Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field in January 2005. It was cold outside, and the night before there had been a heavy snowstorm. As we headed out to the highway, I had a sense that something great was going to happen that day. We got to the stadium at 7 AM and started tailgating right away. All around the parking lot, the sense of anticipation was overwhelming. All you heard was: "This is going to be our year!"

The kickoff launched the greatest, most memorable three hours I have ever had. From start to fabulous finish, I ate that game up!

The Eagles got out to a 20-10 lead, but you could still feel some anxiety mixed in with the belief. Then Chad Lewis caught a TD pass and we all knew: Philadelphia – that's right, PHILADELPHIA – was headed to the Super Bowl! When the clock wound down to zero, Elton John's "Philadelphia Freedom" blared out from the speakers. Confetti flew everywhere. And I finally got to experience my greatest fan moment – that awesome feeling my grandpop and my dad had reminisced about my whole life – the wonderful feeling they had when the Eagles won championships in 1960 and in the late forties. The euphoria just kept growing and spreading from the stands all the way out to the parking lot, where we popped open bottle after bottle of champagne and hugged one another while the whole Eagle nation chanted in unison: "E-A-G-L-E-S! Eagles! We're going to the Bowl!"
